Quindon Tarver is an American singer. He is best known for his cover of Prince's "When Doves Cry" for the 1996 film "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet", starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the leading roles of Romeo and Juliet.
Hey, what's up? My name is Quindon Tarver, international recording artist. When I think about birds, I think about the open space that they fly in, that they are, they're free, they're free to go wherever they choose to. They are not restricted, and they are not bound. They have the ability to just have access to the sky and the sky's the limit for them literally. And when I think about birds, I think about my favorite bird, which is the bald eagle. The ability that they have to soar above anything is quite amazing. I mean, storms, thunder, lightning. They still soar above all that and they still reach their destination. And it just makes me think about life and how I try to apply that to my life, no matter what I go through. The storm, the situation, whatever it may be. I try to overcome it and reach my destination. And another thing, when I think about birds, I think about the song I did "When Doves Cry". I was able to do that, by being able to be a part of that movie, which I landed a chance because I was signed to Virgin Records in 1995. And prior to being signed to Virgin, I did an audition for Hollywood Records, which is associated with Disney. And there was a lady by the name of Laura Syphron, who was over the music department at Fox, 20th Century Fox and she remembered me. I was allowed the opportunity to audition for that part. And I got the part and I did the song "When Doves Cry", by the late great legendary Prince. The song was very successful, it sold over 4 million records worldwide. I find it a great honor to be able to do such a song, which was by Prince like I said, and as you guys can hear. But it's amazing to me because he's very particularly with who he let's cover his music or who he likes to sing his song. And for him to allow me to do such, let's me know that he was approval of what I did with his song. You could check it out. The movie is Romeo and Juliet, co starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. I myself played the choirboy in the movie, I also sung on the soundtrack. The song is "When Doves Cry".
